Mission Statement We call for developing a public voice by engaging in democratic discourse addressing serious issues in the area of education. Specifically, our website focuses on fair and equitable assessment for the children of Texas with an emphasis on multiple criteria assessment (MCA) in the state accountability system. We wish to provide a public space for those concerned with the issues to connect and communicate. More substantively, we hope to make available information about the multi-layered and often, conflicting strands of policy at local, state, and national levels in ways that will help serve Texas’ increasingly diverse K-12 population. The components that we include are: information on MCA and authentic assessment, the history of the legislative struggles of people of color in Texas for justice and equity in education, the impact of high-stakes testing on students of color, and examining the education proposals at the state level. Hopefully, our website will serve as a site of historical record (i.e. bills proposed in the past), as well as a place for continuity, connection and collaboration for all stakeholders.
